Gwen asks Peter to participate in a study she’s doing at Oscorp and neglects to tell him what she’s looking into. When the injection she gives him has unexpected effects, she tries to distance herself from what he’s become, even as Spider-man becomes a powerful force in New York.

“You’re playing with forces you don’t understand,” Dr. Connors had warned her. She hadn’t listened, too fascinated by the potential of her discovery. She had thought Peter might be interested too, and she was right — but she hadn’t forseen this.

“You did this to me,” Peter — Spider-man — said, pacing towards her. She backed up, keeping a close eye on the door to her room. “You wanted to see what humans were capable of.”

“I didn’t — Peter, you have to believe I didn’t know it would do this, I just thought it might help with your asthma,” Gwen said, voice trembling. “Peter —”

He tilted his head and then said, “Your father’s coming,” and he threw himself out the window. She ran to the ledge, watching as he swung off into the night.

“Oh god,” she breathed, hands shaking as she yanked the window shut. “What have I done?”
