“So not that I don’t appreciate the rescue,” Mary Jane said when he deposited her on the top of her apartment building, “but how did you know my name? And where I lived?” She wrapped her arms around herself, shivering as she stared at him. “Who are you?”
“Just your friendly neighborhood Spider-man,” he tried, but she shook her head.
“Nope,” she said. “Not buying it.”
He sighed. “If I take off my mask, you’ll know who I am.”
“I’ll figure it out anyway. Now, go on.” She made a come-on gesture. “Take it off, tiger.”
Peter reached up and slowly took off the mask, hunching his shoulders self-consciously. MJ’s eyes widened in shock as she took him in.
“Peter?” she asked in disbelief. “You — wait, really?” She started laughing. “I’m sorry,” she gasped. “I just — I — does Gwen know?”
“Yes?” Peter said, and she started laughing harder. “What?”
“Oh, it’s just — some conversations suddenly make sense to me,” MJ said, breathless with giggles. “Oh my god, Peter, this is great!”
“Okay,” Peter said, still baffled. “If you say so.”
